Paige Guthrie feels horrible. She hasn't spent one on one time with her best friend in ages. The other day she tried to figure out exactly how long it had been and stopped trying once she realized it was over a month. This needed to be rectified.

She didn't bother to bring anything but her own charming company. If Jubilee needed some help with Cati then Paige would happily lend a hand and if not hopefully they could have a good old fashioned gossip session.

She was definitely out of the loop.

Paige was used to noise. Really she was. You didn't live in a house with nine siblings and not learn how to filter out at least some of the constant chatter. Yet, this girl, her roommate was breaking through every barrier Paige had perfected for tuning out the noise. She wasn't even sure how the girl was doing it. She didn't talk more than Elizabeth and her pitch wasn't anywhere near as high as Joelle's but god, would she ever shut up?

Paige wondered if she just kept looking at the book Ms. Frost had assigned if the girl, Jubilee, would figure out that she was busy. Glancing up at her new roommate, she doubted it. "...so I told him there was just no way no how that was going to work," Jubilee continued, shoving shirts into the dresser. "But did they listen--do they ever listen? No. Totally sad, chica. And like what else could I do but gape and stare after..."

Okay, would nodding along work? Maybe then Paige could figure out a new trick for tuning this new chatter out. Otherwise she did not know how she was going to get the time to read this assigned book and all the supplemental ones Ms. Frost had mentioned before Friday.

It did work, for nearly ten minutes before the popping started. Paige glanced up to see the biggest bubblegum bubble--which was saying a lot, she had brothers and there had been contests--nearly overtaking the girl's face. "I ain't sure that's such a good idea..." Paige warned. She knew from experience what would happen next. Jeb's hair had been nearly shaved off after his blew up in his face.

It took all of Paige's self-control not to burst into laughter as the bubble burst, coating the girl and a few other objects in their room in the sticky substance. Jubilee stared in surprised horror at her, shocked speechless. "This reminds me of the time I blew this one bubble and got it in the Hankster's hair..."

Apparently not shocked speechless. As Paige watched the girl begin to clean herself off she couldn't help but think that she'd never understand the language that was Jubilation Lee.

Thursday Morning

Paige woke up at five thirty because of a constant poking in her side. As much as she loved her baby sister it had taken a lot of energy not to smother the little girl who had tried to look innocent as she hopped out of bed. A quick glance showed Jubilee and Tabitha still sound asleep. They looked peaceful. Paige wanted to go back to looking that peaceful.

"Mama's cookin'!" Hannah whispered, her voice still too loud for that early in the morning. "Can ya smell it? Ain't it great?"

Paige wiped the sleep from her eyes and pulled her hair into a messy ponytail. "Uh huh." She needed coffee if she was going to be anywhere near coherent. Her little sister didn't seem to notice and tugged, pulling Paige out of the room.

"We're gonna make pie an' potatoes an' green beans an' sweet potatoes an' salads an' corn an' turkey!" Hannah's voice rose in volume with each word. "But Ma says this turkey ain't got a name an' I'm supposed ta tell ya that. It's just a turkey. Wasn't no one's pet."

ooc: For Jubilee!mun. Happy late birthday!!!

Um this is set during the girls time with Generation X. After the Thanksgiving fiasco but BEFORE Christmas with Monet. (For those few of you who actually KNOW Gen X canon. :P I MISS it.)

"She's doing it again."

Paige looked up at Jubilee's whine and sighed when she spotted what--or who--the girl was referring to. Sure enough, there was Monet in the middle of their room, standing as still as a statue. "Think we should tell Ms. Frost or Mr. Cassidy?" Paige asked, placing a finger to bookmark the page in her biophysics book.

"Nah, she'll snap out of it." Jubilee snapped her fingers in front of the girl and shrugged. "Eventually. And if not?" The younger girl fell onto the bed beside Paige and scooped up a handful of popcorn, throwing a few kernels at Monet. "No biggie."

"Ya shouldn't play with yer food," Paige murmured, and looked back at her book.

"Puh-LEASE!" Jubilee ducked her head into Paige's view, blocking any way of reading. "Says the girl who leaves skin ANYWHERE."

Technically it was still her room so Paige didn't know why she was bothering to knock. But some ingrained sense of manners told her that she should knock and wait for her best friend to open the door. That was if Jubilee was even in the room. She could always be over in the room she was now sharing with Lorna. Paige was trying really hard not to show her feelings about that, to mask the annoyance and jealousy she felt.

Jubilee was her best friend and Paige's schedule was jam packed so that the time she did get to spend with the girl she didn't want to be encompassed by her envy. A small part of her missed being Jubilee's roommate but Paige also knew she wouldn't go changing her current sleeping accommodations for anything. She was simply going to need to figure out a way to schedule in more time with her best friend and not worry about Lorna taking her place.

Paige hoped she could be at least semi-successful.

Set directly after this

Whenever Paige's phone rings at two in the morning she knows something is wrong. Her first thoughts go directly to the Guthrie homestead, remembering Sam's call from nearly a year ago telling her that their Ma was sick. This time it's Jubilee's name that lights up the screen and Paige knows what is wrong even before the younger girl speaks.

"One sec, hon." She has to extricate herself from her boyfriend and pulls on his shirt as she moves, padding quietly out into the hallway. "Jus' keep on breathin', Jubilee." Paige snuggles down onto one of the chairs in the common room and bites her lip.

It's been awhile since Jubilee had one of her nightmares. Usually Jubilee crawls into bed with Paige and Paige will hold her friend and whisper soothing words while brushing the girl's hair. She talks about Angelo's exploits at the Academy, recounts their fateful time trying to be homeboys in LA, and a million other small things about the friend they miss. Usually she could see Jubilee, could feel the girl calm down and know that their quiet remembrance was helping her work through the pain. Through Jubilee's fear at also being crucified.

There were none of those telltale signs over the phone and Paige doesn't know what to do, doesn't know how to tell. She hopes her voice is enough. She wishes Jubilee was home. Paige doesn't want to dwell on the fact that she thinks of the Mansion as home now.

Eventually Jubilee says goodbye and Paige waits until her friend hangs up before allowing herself to follow suit. She quietly makes her way back to Jono's room and ignores the sun creeping up behind the treetops. He's awake and Paige is never more grateful for that as she crawls across the bed and lets him pull her into his arms. No words are needed and she lets him rub her hair as she cries.

Everything will be better once Jubilee is home. They'd started out as six teammates and their number had grown for a time but now they were down to four. With Monet in X-Factor it was more like there were only three left. They couldn't afford to lose each other.

Takes place after this

Paige should have known it was all Jubilee's fault.

Foo.

There was just no way Angelo would have come up with that many insane words on his own. Of course her annoying roommate/best friend was the one who had given him the ideas. She was livid and had silently fumed since learning the truth. Somehow she would figure a way to get back at the girl. Paige Guthrie had never backed down from a challenge and she wasn't about to start now.

So when the next Sunday rolled around she stomped into the rec room with her newly prepared chart of Scrabble rules and tacked it onto the board. Smoothing the paper out, she smiled as she stepped back to admire her handiwork. They were simple rules. The last one written in large bold letters to add emphasis: JUBILATION LEE IS BANNED FROM SCRABBLE. It wasn't like her friend enjoyed the game anyways. Paige knew that was the reason she'd helped Angelo figure out a way to annoy her. She'd just wanted to play LIFE. Jubilee should have said something instead of going this roundabout way to her goal. The irony of her posting a sign banning her friend instead of talking to her was completely lost on Paige.

"You are looking for trouble, querida," Angelo murmured, reading over the list. "And what's wrong with slang?"

Paige placed the game onto the table and pulled out the rule book. "It's in the rules. No slang, no abbreviations, no...hey! Give that back."

Angelo tossed the book into the trashcan. "You need to think outside the box, Country Mouse."

Gift!fic for Jubilee!mun! I hope your day gets better!!! Any wrongness to Jubilee is entirely my own mess-up!

Last Halloween...

Paige Guthrie loved Halloween. She loved dressing up and if she'd been back home she would have done so. But since she was at the Academy and didn't have the excuse of bringing her younger siblings trick-or-treating, she was trying to be grown up. Which to Paige meant ignoring the holiday. She'd excused herself from going to pick out a pumpkin and had focused on her physics assignment when Angelo and Jubilee had carved it. That had been hard because the two of them had obviously never carved a pumpkin before in their lives! She'd nearly said something a couple of times but always stopped herself and turned back to her studies.

Carving pumpkins was immature.

A scary movie marathon was immature.

Dressing up in costumes was immature.

Paige was getting really tired of trying to be so damn mature.

[info]charloft Friday: People
Havin' ta list the three people that mean the most to me is hard. An' just by my number one alone I'm cheatin'.

1. My family, the Guthries. Yeah, I know my family consists of more than one person but there ain't no way I can just pick one of them or even three of them ta be the most important in my life. They all mean the world ta me an' I am who I am today because of each an' every one of them. So they're gettin' clumped together inta bein' my first 'most important' person cause I ain't about ta pick only one of them.

2. Jubilee. She's my best friend an' without her I'm pretty sure I'd have stayed stuck in my room studyin' instead of doin' anythin' worthwhile with my life. Ever since we met she's been there for me an' I'll always be there for her well discountin' the bit where we couldn't stand each other for awhile. An' if'n she doesn't stop tryi' ta annoy me with her music I'm gonna go inta her room an' break her radio.

3. Jono. First boy I ever really loved liked an' my boyfriend. I could list all the things I like about him but I've blushed enough for the day.

I need ta go over Kitty's lesson plans for next week. I can do this. I can do this. I can do this.

Paige hated making others feel bad. She hated even more when she somehow upset someone close to her. When she'd began dating Jono she'd promised herself that she would still make time for her friends and family. Somehow she'd fallen short with Jubilee. She hadn't meant to but when she went from late night talks with Jubilee to late night make out sessions with her boyfriend spending time with her best friend had definitely decreased.

She just needed to find a better balance. That was all because she wasn't losing either of them. Not to something as simple as time.

Paige grabbed her dog off the bed and after wrapping her robe securely around her, she bounded over to Jubilee's room. She tapped once and inhaled quickly. Hopefully Jubilee wasn't too hurt.

Of cars and friends RP for [info]littlepaffs
Paige was exhausted. She'd been up since nearly dawn upgrading the Mansion's server and then, as part of her punishment for the Jell-O prank, she was at the service of any student with computer trouble. The amount of fur, feathers, and other body parts somehow ending up lodged into various computer consoles was still mystifying, not to mention she still hadn't quite figured out how Karma had managed to demolish the motherboard. Who knew bringing Jubilee a few boxes (okay nearly twenty) of Jell-O would result in so much trouble? Technically, Paige should have. They were best friend's after all.

Which was the only reason Paige was even waiting in the foyer of the Mansion instead of soaking in a nice long bubble bath. Jubilee needed her so she was there. Paige was a Guthrie and they were pretty damn loyal.

She was ready, bag slung over her shoulder and carrying the notebook and research she'd done on environmentally-sound hybrid cars. She didn't really want Jubilee to see the papers. They were already color coded based on various criteria and she knew her friend would tease. Not that Paige minded too much. She simply didn't want to start the ball rolling.

Paige tried not to glance at the nearby clock and smirked. How was it that she took less time than Jubilee?
